I have never used this forum but I will from now on. I have a serious problem and would like advice. I am a practicing OT and have been working with the same company for over 3 years in an ALF. I recently partially tore my Achiilies Tendon and am casted for 6 weeks. According to my employers job description I am able to perform my duties as there is no physical component for my job. I would never put myself or my patients in danger so I would require accomodations to both transfer and transport my patients. This could be accomplished by my co-workers.
I am unable to collect short term disability due to the job description provided by my employer The Weston Group. My Doctor is unable to state that I can not perform my job duties according to the description provided by my employer. My employer states that I am unable to wrok with a cast as I would be placing myself and patients "at risk". I am both unable to collect short term disability because I am able and willing to work and I am unable to work because my employer won't let me. Any advice would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
